Barryville, New York, and the Delaware River

Thursday, February 16th, 2006

The Delaware River flowed in front of the Methodist Parsonage in Barryville where my mom grew up. Grandpa Briggs took some photos that I thought were interesting. The first photo was taken from my mom’s bedroom window.

This is my mom (tallest person), her brother Johnny and Johnny’s friend. The Delaware River is in the background.

This is a view of Delaware taken from Pennsylvania side. The Barryville Methodist Parsonage is marked by a star. The Methodist Church is to the right. The old Baptist church is on the far right.

Eldred, New York

Wednesday, February 15th, 2006

Eldred, New York, is in the area where my parents grew up. I am told that Eldred is named after my great great Grandpa James Eldred whose daughter, Mary, married my great grandpa William Henry Austin.

I have a few photos of the area that I think are interesting, including the Eldred Methodist Church, which was one of the churches my Grandpa Briggs pastored.

This is the Collins home, I think. My understanding is that my Austin grandparents were living there when my father was born. So that is where my dad was born.

Briggs

Since my cousin Clara Jean Briggs Whan wrote a Briggs book, I was able to concentrate on writing a book about Grandma Amanda Myrtie Crabtree Briggs’ Crabtree and Higginson ancestors. However, I find I have some photos that would fit best in the Briggs Category, so I have added a Briggs category.

My Austin Grandparents owned Mountain Grove, a boarding house in Eldred, New York. It burned down a number of years ago. Here are some photos of the house.

This is from a post card photo.

This photo is in the family album.

Photo in Aunt Aida’s Diary

Saturday, February 11th, 2006

This photo was in the back of Aunt Aida’s diary. On the back it says: Do not show this of the boys take…

I have a cousin who is checking on the identity of the two in this photo.
