Children of William Henry and Mary Eldred Austin

Friday, March 24th, 2006

Great Grandma and Grandpa Austin had 10 children. I don’t have all the photos, but I have some. There may be a couple mislabeled, so feel free to give me corrections. Thanks.

Albert Alonzo Austin (1857-?)

Henry Ladore Austin (1866-1929)

Another of Henry Ladore, titled Uncle Dory.

James Eldred (Uncle El)(1855-1943), Albert Alonzo (Uncle Lon), Edith Emogene, and Grandpa Mort all spent some time in Kansas. This is one of the Austin boys in Kansas, but I don’t know which one.

Edith Emogene Austin (1851-1879) died Solomon City, Kansas. Her parents had sent her there in hopes she would get over her TB.

I’ve had this photo up before. It is Charles Mortimer Austin (1864-1937), possibly with a brother.

This is one of two photos I have of Aida Austin (Aunt Aida) (1861-1926). Her 1881 Diary is posted on this site. She was 19 when she started writing it in January 1881.

Children I have no photo of.
Mary Henrietta (1849-before WWI), Maria Adelaide (1853-1916), Edward Augustus (he was grandpa Mort’s twin brother that died when he was four months old), and Randolph Laing (1868-1880).

John W. Smith

Friday, March 24th, 2006

I really like this photo. It is my husband’s great grandfather, John W. Smith. Try to find information on a John Smith! I can find him in Illinois in 1870. He supposedly was born in Livingston County, New York, but I came up empty handed there.

Great Great Grandma Charlotte Griffith Clark

Friday, March 24th, 2006

How exciting to find this photo of my great great Grandma Charlotte Freelove Griffith Clark (1836-1930).

From the left: Grandma Myrtle Briggs, Grandpa Irwin Briggs, three Briggs brothers.
In front: Laura Briggs on one side and Mildred on the other.
In the middle: Great Great Grandma Clark and my mom, Mary Briggs is sitting near her. My understanding is that my mom and GGGrandma Clark really hit it off.

John George Lewis Crabtree

Great Grandpa John is pretty young in this photo.

I don’t have a date as to when this was taken.

Card to Mary Crabtree from a Cousin

Saturday, March 18th, 2006

This card is to my great aunt, Mary Crabtree (John and Ida Higginson Crabtree’s daughter), from her cousin Alta McCoy. Alta was the granddaughter of Ida Crabtree’s sister, Isabelle Reynolds. Alta’s mother was Della Davis Reynolds McCoy. Special thanks go to Cal Bivens for the copy of the card.

This photo is of the Sanford Church in Nebraska. Great Grandma Ida is the one with the ‘interesting’ hat. Great Grandpa John is in the back, second from the right. Mary Donaldson Higginson Shattuck is on the right. Thank you to Cal Bivens for this photo.

The Will of James Eldred

Monday, March 13th, 2006

Mary Ann Eldred Austin was the daughter of James Eldred and his second wife Hannah Hickok. Hannah is listed in the 1860 census as living with Mary Ann and her husband (William) Henry Austin.

When I was at my mom’s in May of 2005, I was very excited to see James Eldred’s will. The family story is that Eldred, New York was named after James Eldred, who would be my great great grandfather.
