Echo Hill Farm House

Thursday, August 2nd, 2007

The Sherman Buckley Leavenworth home became the home of his son Sherman Styles Leavenworth who called it Echo Hill Farm House and housed boarders.

These are the rules for those staying at Echo Hill Farm.

Thank you to Cynthia for sending me the scan of the house and a copy of the rules. The house in the back was attached to the main house and was the summer kitchen. The servants lived upstairs and had a special entrance that they came into the house.

Sherman Buckley Charlotte Ingram Leavenworth Home

Here are some of the photos Gary took of Cynthia and my great great Leavenworth grandparent’s home. My understanding is that it was built around 1830. I’m assuming all Sherman B. and Charlotte’s children were born there. I am told that their Granddaughter, Jennie Leavenworth was born there as well as Jennie’s oldest Son McKinley. Jennie married Mort Austin and was my grandmother.

Cynthia and I with the owner of the house. Many of the windows are the original hand-blown glass.

Notice the well cover.

Close up of the well cover.

There used to be a wrap around porch.

Close up of the outside of one of the main bedrooms.

The owner graciously allowed us into the house. To the right in the back was the pantry.

Wood floors and entrance to the bedroom.

One of the bedrooms.

The Chimney.

Tractor on the property.

Second Cousins Meet in Eldred, NY

Wednesday, August 1st, 2007

Well, hello there friends and relatives. I am excited to post some photos of our July trip to the east coast. My second cousin Cynthia (who I last saw when I was 14, so that would be in the 60s), drove three hours to meet me in the town of Eldred where she grew up. What a grand trip it was. I hope you enjoy the photos that my husband Gary took for me.
